Inviting Waters is born from an encounter with a rare sanctuary tucked deep within Karijini’s sculpted gorges, a spring‑fed pool where clear, cool water gathers beneath twin cascades and lush ferns that thrive against the rust‑red rock walls. In this ancient place of life and stillness, time feels different: compressed in the slow drip of water, and expansive in the quiet colour of stone and shade. 

Here, in the heart of the Pilbara, a fragile oasis contrasts with the surrounding arid terrain. Fern Pool’s inviting surface mirrors the sky and frames reflections of the towering cliffs, creating a space where movement and stillness coexist. This rich interplay of textures and light — water meeting rock, green against ochre, inspired my exploration of colour, rhythm and gesture.

Through vibrant marks and layered surfaces, Inviting Waters invites the viewer to linger, to sense the coolness beneath the sun, the whisper of fern fronds, and the timeless flow of water that threads through rock and memory alike.
