Guardians of Circular Pool reflects my ongoing relationship with the Pilbara landscape and a particular moment of stillness experienced at in Dales Gorge, Karijini. This place is held gently between towering rock walls and water that has carved its path over immense spans of time. For me, the pool feels protected, cradled by ancient stone and watched over by the resilient trees that cling to the gorge edges like quiet sentinels.
As I move through these gorges, I am always aware of my smallness within a vast, living system. Looking upward from the rock paths, light filters in and shifts constantly, transforming the colours of stone, water, and foliage. The guardian trees stand firm despite heat, drought, and erosion, embodying endurance and adaptation. In this work, they become symbols of protection, memory, and continuity within a landscape shaped by both permanence and change.
Through Guardians of Circular Pool, I invite viewers to reconnect with their own experiences of place, to remember moments of wonder in nature, to notice overlooked details, and to pause within the ancient rhythms of the land.
