Guardians of Rocky Pool is inspired by the tranquil beauty of Rocky Pool, nestled within the bushland of Kalamunda, not far from the iconic Bibbulmun Track. This special place, with its ancient granite formations, has long been a retreat for both humans and wildlife. I was drawn to capture the essence of this hidden sanctuary; the way the rocks stand as timeless sentinels and guardians of the land; their presence evoking strength, stability, and a deep connection to the earth.
The granite boulders of Rocky Pool are remarkable; their weathered forms shaped over millions of years through natural forces of erosion and time. These ancient stones, with their textured surfaces and soft lichen coverings, create a natural amphitheatre within the bush; offering shelter and a sense of stillness; as if holding the space in quiet reverence.
Rocky Pool has been a beloved destination for generations. People are drawn here to reconnect with nature; to find solace in the cool shade of the forest; and to admire the sculptural beauty of the rock formations. For many, including myself, it offers a moment of pause; a place to reflect, breathe deeply, and feel the spirit of the land.
This painting is a celebration of the bushland’s rugged beauty; the harmonious balance of rock, trees, and earth; and the enduring relationship between people, animals, and this special environment. Guardians of Rocky Pool seeks to honour the timeless appeal of this place; where nature’s quiet strength and serenity are felt deeply by all who visit.
