Journeys End is born from the experience of reaching Emma Gorge, a sanctuary carved deep within the Kimberley’s ancient Cockburn Ranges. The painting reflects the dramatic convergence of rugged terrain and life-giving water where towering sandstone walls, worn by millennia of elemental force, embrace a pool beneath a slender curtain of falling water.
This place is a threshold between the harsh red earth and a hidden oasis of shade, fern‑clad crevices, and cool, shimmering water, an abrupt shift in climate and mood that renews the spirit. The journey into the Gorge’s heart, over rocky ground and through swaying light, evokes both challenge and reward.
In Journeys End, I explore the tension between solidity and transience: the steadfast rock faces that record deep time and the fleeting dance of light on water that marks the present moment.
