Retreat is inspired by the tranquil beauty of Rocky Pool, nestled within the bushland of Kalamunda, not far from the iconic Bibbulmun Track. This special place, with its ancient granite formations and seasonal waterfall, has long been a retreat for both humans and wildlife. I was drawn to capture the essence of this hidden sanctuary; the way the rocks stand as timeless sentinels, and how the water, when it flows, brings life and renewal to the landscape.

Rocky Pool has been a beloved destination for generations. People are drawn here to reconnect with nature, to find solace in the cool shade of the forest, and to listen to the soothing sounds of the water cascading over stone. For many, including myself, it offers a moment of pause; a place to reflect, breathe deeply, and feel the spirit of the land.

This painting is a celebration of the bushland’s rugged beauty, the harmonious balance of rock, water, and trees, and the enduring relationship between people, animals, and this special environment. Retreat seeks to honour the timeless appeal of Rocky Pool — a place where nature’s quiet strength and serenity are felt deeply by all who visit.
