Rivers Journey is inspired by the serene yet powerful waterways threading through Karijini’s gorges, where rock, water, and flora converge in a timeless dance. Travelling through Western Australia, I am captivated by the subtle shifts in colour, light, and texture that reveal themselves as the day passes and the seasons change. The gorges’ flowing rivers carve paths through ancient rock, reflecting both the permanence of the landscape and the fleeting, ephemeral qualities of water and life.

In this work, I explore the interaction between landscape and memory, translating the experience of walking through these sacred spaces into vibrant mark-making, expressive lines, and layered colour. The surrounding vegetation, resilient and intricate, frames the waterways, creating a living tapestry that celebrates the interconnectedness of land, water, and life.

Through Abstract Realism, I seek to evoke not only the visual beauty of Karijini but also the emotional resonance of being immersed in nature. I hope viewers will find themselves drawn into the scene, pausing to notice details in the rocks, reflections in the water, and the quiet energy of the surrounding flora. Rivers Journey invites reflection on the landscapes we traverse and the subtle moments of wonder that linger in memory long after the journey has ended.
