Redgate Beach is unlike any other beach I have visited. Here, giant boulders stand as mighty guardians between the land and the relentless ocean; their weathered forms sculpted by the powerful forces of wind, waves, and time into stunning natural artworks. Exploring and climbing these rocks is both exhilarating and humbling — each step demanding care, as the wind and surf crash around, asserting the raw energy of this remarkable coastal landscape.
Located in the Margaret River region of Western Australia, Redgate Beach is part of a world-renowned area celebrated for its natural beauty, surf culture, and rich history. The Margaret River region is a place where ancient geology meets vibrant ecosystems; its rugged coastline revealing layers of sandstone, limestone, and granite that tell stories of millions of years of earth’s evolution.
This beach holds historical significance too — it has long been a place where Indigenous people lived and connected deeply with the land and sea. Today, it continues to draw visitors from across Australia and around the world who come to experience its wild beauty, crystal-clear waters, and breathtaking rock formations.
In painting Redgate Beach, I was captivated by the intricate lines, textures, and marks etched into the rocks — each one a signature of nature’s slow but powerful hand. This artwork is a celebration of one of Australia’s most beautiful and dramatic beaches; a place that offers adventure, reflection, and connection to the natural world for everyone lucky enough to visit the Margaret River region.
